Prof. Md. Atiar Rahman

University of Chittagong, Bangladesh & Walailak University, Thailand

Biography: Professor Dr. Md. Atiar Rahman graduated from Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Dhaka in 1996. He did MSc in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology from University of Dhaka, in 1997. Professor Rahman was conferred PhD in Biochemistry and Food Science from United Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, Ehime University, Japan in 2006. He also accomplished a one-year postdoctoral research in KwaZulu Natal University, Durban as an NRF fellow of South African Government. Professor Rahman is currently working as a Principal Investigator, Laboratory of Alternative Medicine and Natural Product Research and Professor, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, University of Chittagong. He is a former Chairman, Department of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology of the same university. He just just finished his one-year contract as an International Professor (Distinguished Scholar Category) at Walailak University, Thailand. He has conducted more than 20 research projects offered by Ministry of Science and Technology Bangladesh; Ministry of Education Bangladesh, University Grants Commission Bangladesh; Bangladesh Agriculture Research Council (BARC); and Chittagong University Research and Publication Cells, on therapeutic prospects of plat and plant-based products. Synthesis of biogenic nanoparticles using plant products and evaluation of their therapeutic potential in doxorubicin-induced cardiotoxicity is one of his most successful research projects. The effect of plant materials in noncommunicable therapeutic management through the modulation of gene expression is also his significant contribution in the drug discovery process. He has more than 135 publications in international and national peer reviewed, high quality preferably in Q1 indexed scientific journals of esteemed publishers such as Elsevier, Wiley, Springer and MDPI. He has delivered more than 100 international and national scientific conference talks to his credit. Professor Rahman has published five book chapters of renowned publishers edited by eminent scientists.

Prof. Hossain M. Zabed

Guangzhou University, China

Prof. Hossain M. Zabed is currently working as a Professor in Guangzhou University, China. His research field is applied biotechnology with the research interest in Synthetic biology to produce biofuels and commodity chemicals from waste and biomass streams, particularly lignocellulosic, bioenergy-derived, and food wastes.  He works on enzyme and strain engineering to develop robust biocatalysts and bioprocess engineering. Some examples of his current and previous research focuses are (1) rate-limiting enzyme engineering and fine-tuning their expression levels; (2) modulating model and non-model strains; (3) pathway engineering for redox balance and metabolic flux balance; (4) microbial tolerance improvement using genome minimization and global transcription machinery engineering (GTME); (5) elucidation of the genetic basis of tolerance and biosynthesis using omics-based technologies; and (6) exploitation of cell-based or cell-free cascade biocatalysis through enzyme immobilization. Based on his research experience, his future research plan is to work on the key issues of synthetic biology and extend his research area to synthetic biology-mediated natural products, therapeutics, and bioactive materials by developing novel biocatalysts and exploring advanced technologies.
